Winston T. Cope, M.D. is a Pinellas County native, but after high school, he left for Ohio to receive his BA degree in Chemistry at Oberlin College. He returned to Florida to receive his M.D. degree from the University of Florida in 1972. Following medical school, he took his internship at the University of Miami School of Medicine and then completed his residency at Duke University. Dr. Cope returned to Pinellas County, Florida in 1978 to begin his career in ophthalmology. His mother and father were physicians practicing ophthalmology in St. Petersburg in the 1940's, where ophthalmology was barely present. Due to his medical background, Dr. Cope always took extra interest in the "whole patient." In September of 2005, Dr. Cope was certified by The Cenegenics Medical Institute in Hormone Replacement Therapy and lifestyle medicine. He was recertified by Cenegenics in April, 2013. After 36 years in private practice, Dr. Cope joined the eye care professionals at The Eye Institute of West Florida, where he continues seeing his patients along with new patients for their eyes. He also offers hormone therapy and lifestyle medicine through the Maintenance and Wellness Program with Weight Wise Rx. The Eye Institute physicians and staff welcome Dr. Cope and his lovely wife, Candace.
